THE SCIENTIFIC REGIONAL COMMITTEE OF THE INSTITUTE SETS-UP THE NEXT SCIENTIFIC AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

The Regional Scientific Committee (RSC) of The Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights met yesterday afternoon at its headquarters in Siracusa.

Established in 2006, the RSC has the task of promoting and coordinating scientific conferences, seminars, pilot projects and studies in Sicily. The Committee is composed of 21 specialists including magistrates, lawyers, prosecutors, and professors who contributes in many ways to the Siracusa Institute’s scientific activities.

Many the items on the meeting agenda. Among these, the new members of the Council (formally appointed during the last meeting of the Institute’s Board of Directors, held on December 1st, 2018) and the official beginning of their office.  Here are the new members:

  • Gaetano Armao, Vice-President of the Sicilian Region;

 

  • Paolo Borrometi, Journalist and Writer;
  • Antonio Gullo, Professor of Criminal Law at LUISS Guido Carli University of Rome;

 

  • Francesco Puleio, Procuratore Aggiunto della Repubblica at the Court of Catania;

 

  • Tommaso Rafaraci, Professor of Procedural and Criminal Law at the University of Catania;

 

  • Fabio Scavone, Procuratore Aggiunto della Repubblica at the Court of Siracusa.

 

  • Francesco Puleio, Procuratore Aggiunto presso il Tribunale di Catania;

 

 

The Committee has also discussed about the organization of several cultural and scientific activities for the upcoming years, including AGÒN, the event structured as a moot trial focusing on the characters of Greek classical tragedies, and which has taken place since 2006 at the Greek Theatre of Siracusa. This year the initiative will be held on June 20th. Moreover, the RSC discussed about the next edition of the training course for magistrates, which is organized in cooperation with the Italian “Scuola Superiore della Magistratura” and that will be held in Siracusa between June 19 and 21.
